On Sunday, 22nd September, the 31st Chariots of Fire relay race took place in central Cambridge in aid of Magpas Air Ambulance.

Almost 300 teams took part on the day—including our very own Magpas Air Ambulance team. Doctors Fiqry and Leigh, Critical Care Paramedics Sarah and Shaunna, Aircrewman Scott and even one of our former patients, Allistair, raced on the day wearing their uniform and a Magpas Air Ambulance kit bag.

Magpas Air Ambulance was delighted to have Olympic athlete and gold medalist Derek Redmond there to start the race. No stranger to a relay, Redmond has won gold and silver medals in the 4x400 metres relay in the European and World Championships. Derek has supported air ambulances for many years, and it was brilliant to have him present on the day.

Congratulations to all of the Chariots of Fire runners who braved the elements in this iconic relay race, which was featured on ITV Anglia.

Ruth Beck, Magpas Air Ambulance's Corporate, Community and Events Fundraising Manager says, "The Chariots of Fire race on Sunday was a roaring success. The atmosphere on the day was electric, a testament to the fun and excitement all the teams and supporters brought on the day—even the torrential rain couldn't dampen our spirits!
"It was great to see our own Magpas Air Ambulance team running on the day too. Made up of doctors, critical care paramedics, aircrewman and even a former patient, Ely-based Allistair Berry, who had a cardiac arrest last year.
"Thanks to everyone's incredible support, this Chariots of Fire has raised over £37,000, with more still to be counted! This enormous sum will help Magpas Air Ambulance continue to provide vital medical care to patients across Cambridgeshire and beyond, saving lives and keeping families together 24/7."
