Clinical governance relates to quality, accountability, responsibility, safety and excellence—all of which are fundamental to the charity’s organisational culture and philosophy.

What is clinical governance?

Clinical governance is the system of monitoring and continuously improving the quality of our clinical services to ensure we provide outstanding, safe care to all. Most importantly, we create a culture in which excellence will flourish.

Magpas Air Ambulance works closely with the NHS, adopting and developing best practice to be industry leaders.

Clinical governance promotes a learning atmosphere where open participation is valued, multi-disciplinary teams work together and patients are considered as partners.

Care Quality Commission (CQC)

In 2007, Magpas Air Ambulance became the first independent pre-hospital care service in the UK to voluntarily register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. They inspect services to make sure they provide patients with safe, high-quality care.

Magpas Air Ambulance was last inspected in September 2022; the Care Quality Commission found that Magpas Air Ambulance delivered an outstanding service with ‘many examples of outstanding practice’ highlighting that the service created a ‘positive patient-focused culture’, used ‘innovation and research to improve patient outcomes’ and achieve the service’s mission of saving lives.
