Scott Dwyer, based in Burwell, Cambridgeshire, is one of the finalists for ITV News Anglia's Regional Fundraiser of the Year award; the winner of which will represent the Anglia region at this year's Pride of Britain Awards. The dad of two suffered life-changing injuries in 2022 when his legs were snapped in the rungs of a ladder, as it collapsed from a third-story window.
Magpas Air Ambulance, the lifesaving charity based in Cambridgeshire, was called to Scott and an advanced medical team provided him with lifesaving medical treatments before taking him to hospital.
Despite still being on a long road to recovery, Scott's determination and unwavering commitment to supporting the charity that saved his life has been nothing short of awe-inspiring.
As well as raising vital awareness of the service by telling his shocking story and explaining the difference Magpas Air Ambulance made for him, Scott's also volunteered for the charity at events and became a part of the service's Patients Voices forum. However, Scott's flagship fundraiser was his 300-mile push in his wheelchair this spring, which gained lots of media attention and raised thousands of pounds for Magpas Air Ambulance; helping to save even more people like Scott.
When asked how it would feel to win ITV Anglia's Regional Fundraiser of the Year award, Scott described, "I'd be over the moon to receive such an award but, moreover, if I can continue to help Magpas Air Ambulance raise the critical funds they need to keep saving lives, I'm simply proud to leave a legacy that my children are going to be proud of."
Scott's story aired on ITV Anglia last night (15 September) as the news channel shines a spotlight on some of the community's most incredible fundraisers, and the winner of their Fundraiser of the Year Award will go on to represent the Anglia region at this year's prestigious Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards 2025.
