Jerry Porter, from Alconbury, has volunteered with Magpas Air Ambulance for just under two years. In that time, he’s donated hundreds of hours of his time, helped across all areas of the local charity and made a real and lasting impact not only on the lifesaving service, but the local community it serves.
Recognised for his phenomenal commitment to the cause, Jerry was awarded ‘Volunteer of the Year’ at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising East Anglia Awards last night (15 October).

Since January 2024, Jerry has supported the charity at 53 fundraising events, delivered 6 talks in the community, helped guide supporters around 4 Magpas Air Ambulance open days, trained 1,392 people in the lifesaving skill of CPR, supported the operational team with upcoming projects, and even dressed up as the charity mascot!
His passion for Magpas Air Ambulance also extends beyond his own involvement, as Jerry’s inspired his wife to become a regular volunteer (who joins him at events and helps individually in the office), and even got his daughter to begin volunteering as well.
Sam Disney, Magpas Air Ambulance’s Volunteer Lead, explains, “Since joining our volunteer team, Jerry has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He is an incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer, always willing to take on new challenges and step up wherever needed...
“His flexibility, reliability and passion make him an invaluable asset to our team. We are so grateful for everything he brings to the organisation."
Following the award win, Jerry said, “I was really surprised to be nominated, and even more to win, especially with so many fantastic individuals and charities in the running.
“If Magpas Air Ambulance is about anything, it’s about great teamwork, across all the different parts and layers of the organisation. I’m very proud to be part of that team and to do my bit to help save lives.”
