Ben Ray
Since 2020, Market Deeping-based Ben Ray has set himself an annual challenge to raise money for Magpas Air Ambulance. This Father's Day, in memory of his son, Harry, he's setting off on his biggest challenge yet.
Ben explains, "I complete these challenges in memory of my beautiful son, Harry, who sadly passed away on 22nd December 2019."
Magpas Air Ambulance was called to help, and although they couldn’t save Harry, the medical team did everything they could to care for him in his moment of need and stayed by his side until the end. The care the Magpas Air Ambulance team provided allowed time for Harry’s family to be with him at the time, which Ben says he will be forever grateful for.
Ben continues, "Harry was amazing, kind, caring and had a smile that would light a whole room up. Magpas Air Ambulance gave me so much that day by helping Harry, without them we would not have been able to say our final goodbyes—and for that, I owe them everything. That’s why I’ve chosen to raise money for the charity ever since.”
Ben and Harry
From 2020 onwards, Ben has taken on an annual long-distance running challenge. Last year, he went one step further and ran 30 half marathons in the month of May. However, Ben explains, "This year, I'm taking on my biggest challenge to date! On 16th June, I will be setting off to cycle from John O' Groats to Land's End with my one of my oldest and closet friends, Simon Ford. In total we will be cycling just a little over 900 miles!"
It's a challenge Ben's been eyeing up for a while and this year he decided to take the plunge. "When I asked Simon if he wanted to join me, all he said was 'when are we setting off?'", Ben says. "Training has gone well bar a few hiccups, and although I'm nervous, I'm also excited and can't wait to get started now."
Ben’s strength and determination is incredible and his JustGiving page, named Tour de Harry, has already racked up over £900 in sponsorship! If you would like to support Ben’s challenge, you can sponsor him too at:
