Peterborough United’s Director of Football, Barry Fry, is calling on fans and local people to wear something orange for Magpas Orange Day. The celebration day takes place on 20th May to promote Magpas Air Ambulance’s lifesaving work and raise vital funds.
People are encouraged to get their workplace, school or social club involved and wear something orange with a £1 donation to the charity, or fundraise with ideas such as sitting in a baked bean bath or eating only orange foods for the day.
Dressed in an orange wig, Barry said, “It’s really important to support this important local cause, as none of know when we might need their help. Wearing something orange and donating £1 is an easy way to show your support for the work of their amazing doctors and paramedics, who save lives around the clock. It would be great to see all of Peterborough going orange on 20th May.”
Magpas Air Ambulance brings crucial lifesaving care by land and air to patients in life-threatening emergencies. Many of the UK’s expert doctors and paramedics volunteer their own time to work with Magpas Air Ambulance. In the last two years alone, the service has been called out 318 times to incidents in Peterborough. The medical team have treated patients at incidents ranging from serious road traffic collisions to heart attacks.
As Magpas Air Ambulance does not receive direct Government funding and relies on public donations to keep the service going, Orange Day is an important day in the charity’s calendar in reaching its fundraising goal of £4 million this year.
Peterborough United will also be supporting fundraising efforts at the final match of the season on Sunday 8th May with bucket collections for the charity.
