On 17th June Magpas Air Ambulance is bringing KAPOW! to St Ives. The KAPOW! Superhero Challenge is a 5k inflatable assault course; packed full of unique obstacles to bounce over, squeeze through and slip and slide on – and lots of foam! Dress up as your favourite superhero and get all your friends, family and co-workers involved. By taking part you’ll be making a lifesaving difference and helping to raise vital funds for Magpas Air Ambulance.

Someone who knows what a life-changing difference Magpas Air Ambulance can make is Brandon. Brandon had just finished his first day at secondary school. He got off the school bus when he was hit by a second bus, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. Magpas Air Ambulance flew to Brandon and the enhanced doctor-paramedic team provided him with vital A&E level care there and then – placing Brandon into a medically induced coma at the scene in order to protect his brain. Brandon has since made an incredible recovery and when speaking of the incident he said, “Magpas Air Ambulance basically handed me back my life. If they hadn’t come that day, I wouldn’t be here right now.”

Brandon is now 17 and his family have put together a team of their own for Magpas’ KAPOW!. Brandon’s mum Kate said, “We owe Magpas Air Ambulance everything. Brandon is the first of our four boys and Magpas saved his life that day. We couldn’t be more grateful.”

Kate goes on to say why they’re taking on the inflatable obstacle course. “First of all, it’s fun and it gets the whole family involved and out together – all 6 of us will be there on the day! It also gives us an opportunity to give something back to Magpas Air Ambulance when they gave us something we could never repay them for. Plus, it’s the boys’ way of saying thank you for saving their big brother.” Kate continues, “Something like Brandon’s accident can happen to anyone at any time. You never expect something like that to happen to you, but no one is exempt. Magpas Air Ambulance are there for everyone 24/7, so we should be there for them when they need us.”

Not only is the event a great day out and fun-packed way to start the summer, but by taking part you will be helping us to save more lives like Brandon’s. In 2017 Magpas Air Ambulance were called to 834 life-threatening medical emergencies in Cambridgeshire alone. By taking part in our event you will help us to continue to provide lifesaving care by land and air, across the east of England and beyond 24/7.

The KAPOW! Superhero Challenge will be held at St Ives (Hunts) Golf Club from 11am – 4pm. Tickets are £25 or just £15 for children under 16. The event is suitable for all fitness levels and perfect for the whole family. However, if an inflatable fun run isn’t for you, you can watch your friends and loved ones take on the course from the sidelines – and make a day of it by enjoying food and refreshments from the on-site bar and BBQ.
