A statement from Magpas Air Ambulance CEO, Daryl Brown:

“Magpas Air Ambulance are pleased to have been granted full planning permission to build a new headquarters, training centre and Air Base at Alconbury Weald. The charity needs to relocate due to the sale of the land by DIO at our current airbase – RAF Wyton. After an extensive search, the site on the outskirts of Alconbury Weald provided the optimum location to reach patients across our area of operation, by land and by air, in the most effective way possible. Magpas is incredibly proud of its 50 year association with Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire and we feel it is essential to keep this charity and its medical service located in the heart of Cambridgeshire, ensuring local communities can rely on our 24/7 lifesaving service for generations to come. Site clearance will start at the end of this year and Magpas Air Ambulance expect to start building works in the autumn of 2021 and aim to complete the new airbase by 2022.”
