Chair of the Board of Trustees

Having operated at the highest level in the corporate, public and charity sectors John has achieved significant success in all his roles over many years and has forged strong and meaningful relationships at all levels within these. He has a great passion to enhance the ability of business to succeed and uses his extensive expertise as an advisor and non-executive director in a number of different organisations.

Currently some of John’s other involvements include the honour of being a Deputy Lieutenant for Cambridgeshire, Independent Chair of Cambridge City Airport Consultative Committee (Statutory Body), Vice Chair of Governors of Kimbolton School, Chair of the of the St John Ambulance Priory Group – Cambridgeshire and an Audit & Risk Committee member of Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT).

Previously for over 17 years John was Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce, the vibrant and influential business membership organisation committed to driving economic confidence and growth and “Inspiring Success” where he still continues to be involved in various other capacities.

His extensive experience includes leading the Road Haulage Association at national level as both

National Chairman and for a period as acting Chief Executive, Chairing the Project Board setting up the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Enterprise Partnership (LEP), Chair of Opportunity Peterborough (The Economic Development Company for Peterborough), as a Director of Cambridgeshire Horizons (delivering the growth strategy for Cambridgeshire) as well as being the Chair of their Audit & Risk Management Committee and a past Chair of the Greater Peterborough Partnership (LSP).

During his career John was for over 18 years Managing Director of C W Bridge (Holdings) Ltd, his family road haulage & distribution company based in Huntingdon.

His achievements have included being a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CharteredFCIPD) – for over 30 years, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT) – for over 20 years, a Freeman of the City of London and an Honorary Life Member of the Road Haulage Association.

John was awarded his OBE in 1997 in Sir John Major’s resignation honours list for services to him whilst he was Prime Minister.
