The increased demand for Magpas Air Ambulance and the lifesaving service it provides is here to stay, with the charity experiencing its busiest month on record in May. This follows the service—that relies on public donations to continue saving lives—being called to more critically ill and injured patients than ever before last year.

Magpas Air Ambulance’s advanced team of doctors and critical care paramedics responded to 197 emergency calls across 9 counties last month. With the charity being based in the county, 53% of its activations took place in Cambridgeshire and, as the busiest air ambulance service in Bedfordshire, Magpas Air Ambulance responded to patients in life-threatening emergencies every day on average in the county.

Additionally, the day which saw the highest demand for Magpas Air Ambulance’s vital service was Saturday, 2nd May—the first bank holiday weekend—when the charity’s medical team was activated 11 times in 24 hours. And medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrests, remained its most attended incident.

Magpas Air Ambulance CEO Daryl Brown MBE DL says, “Magpas Air Ambulance has been saving lives in Cambridgeshire for 55 years, and we are proud to rise to the demand for our service and be there for every patient who urgently needs our care across the region. But it's important to remember that none of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our supporters, who enable us to provide this vital service 24/7. With you, we save lives.”
