As a lifesaving organisation, continuing to respond to patients is as important now as it has ever been and the Magpas Air Ambulance advanced doctors and critical care paramedics continue to work on the front line in these challenging times.

All members of the Magpas team are specially trained in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM), meaning they can support the ambulance service and provide patients, in life-threatening emergencies, with treatments and care that would otherwise only be available in hospital.

The Magpas Air Ambulance doctors and paramedics are experts in their field and have each trained and worked in senior roles for over 10 years before joining the charity. So when they aren’t on board at Magpas Air Ambulance, they’re continuing to work tirelessly to keep patients safe in other roles too; like Adriana, Nathan and Steve…

When Magpas Air Ambulance Dr Adriana is not working with the charity, she works in intensive care and emergency medicine at Addenbrooke’s Hospital for the NHS. She explains, “I’ve learnt so much, including the true value of being part of a team. When you find yourself in seemingly impossible situations, it is truly empowering to be able to combine all your skills in order to provide patients with the best possible care.”

Magpas Air Ambulance Dr Nathan Howes also works as a consultant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital Emergency Department. He says, “The knowledge and experience, involved in both jobs, complement each other; which in turn makes me a better clinician, team mate and teacher – wherever the patient’s emergency is.”

Finally, Steve has been working as a Magpas Air Ambulance Critical Care Paramedic since 2012. When he’s away from the charity, he works for the NHS East of England Ambulance Service as an Advanced Critical Care Paramedic.

He sums up, “Times are challenging at the moment, whether that’s as part of the Magpas medical team or as a first responder for the NHS. However, in the midst of it all, I feel fortunate to be able to continue to respond to patients in their time of need – in both my roles.”
