This Sunday, 27th April, Gemma McCormick from London is running the London Marathon in aid of the charity that helped save her husband’s life.
Having run a few half marathons in the past and entered the London Marathon ballot for the last 10 years, Gemma finally got the chance two years after her husband needed the expert skills of Magpas Air Ambulance.
Gemma explains, “My husband, Andy, suffered a serious head injury while cycling in 2023. Magpas Air Ambulance flew to the scene of his accident and provided him with essential pre-hospital care. This not only helped to save Andy’s life, but it also limited his long-term disability.”
Magpas Air Ambulance is a charity that provides advanced medical care to patients at the scene of their accidents when every second counts. The air ambulance doctors and paramedics are specially trained in pre-hospital emergency medicine and can provide treatments and procedures above those of a standard land ambulance, before a patient reaches hospital. This early, expert care saves lives, reduces recovery times and limits disability.
In support of the charity, Gemma will run the 26.2 mile route in London this Sunday.
Gemma continues, “I will be forever grateful to the Magpas Air Ambulance team for the care they provided. I’m a bit nervous but feel excited about the atmosphere and camaraderie on the day, and hope that by raising some funds and awareness for Magpas Air Ambulance, I can support them in continuing their vital work.”
