Andy has been a staunch supporter of Magpas Air Ambulance for almost a decade. First by raising money through an annual fireworks event for his local community in Hemingford, and then taking on the Cambridge Half Marathon for the charity in 2021.

He remembers, “I decided to do it, without a clue what it really entailed! 14 weeks later, I ran my first half marathon, and I’ve run it every year since; using it as another way to raise awareness and funds.”

Little did he know this was only the beginning of his journey with Magpas Air Ambulance. Andy describes, “In December 2025, I had a call from my mum… My dad had gone into cardiac arrest.

“I’m lucky to live close by and got there as soon as I could. Magpas Air Ambulance arrived shortly afterwards, took control and after nine minutes, they got him back!”

Our crew stabilised Andy’s father there at the house before taking him to a specialist hospital where he had a stent fitted. He was home within a few days and has since made a fantastic recovery.

Now, Andy’s embarking on his biggest challenge yet: running the 2027 London Marathon for the charity that saved his dad’s life.

He continues, “A few years ago, I’d only ever run to the bar for last orders. Now I’m going to run 26.2 miles! After watching Magpas Air Ambulance save a life, I realise even more how lucky we are to have this amazing team on our doorstep. No words and no fundraising can ever repay the amazing gift of life they gave my dad, but I’m proud to do what I can for this charity that did so much for my family.”
