Throughout the year we may call or speak to our supporters regarding their support to our weekly lottery.
Lottery membership with Magpas Air Ambulance is operated in partnership with Unity4 and LFS who fundraise on our behalf.
Our fundraising activity resumes
In line with guidelines from Public Health England, the Institute of Fundraising and the Fundraising Regulator, Magpas Air Ambulance will be resuming some of its public fundraising activities from Monday 13 July, where social distancing will be observed.
Magpas Air Ambulance relies on public donations to continue our lifesaving operations. Everyday throughout the pandemic our Doctors and Paramedics have remained on the front line and our organisation has faced increased costs to ensure our teams, patients and staff remain safe. At the same time, the impact of Covid-19 has meant that many of our fundraising events and initiatives have been postponed and some activity reduced or stopped completely.
However, as a result of the easing of lockdown restrictions from July 4th, we have worked with our lottery & fundraising agency to enable the charity to restart public facing fundraising activity in some low risk areas. We will be doing this from Monday 13th July 2020 and focussing on fundraising for regular gifts.
Regular gifts – whether that’s through playing our weekly Magpas lottery or by giving a monthly donation – account for over 75% of the organisation’s income and are absolutely vital to our ability to run the service. By restarting this activity, Magpas Air Ambulance can make positive steps towards raising the vital funds needed to continue saving lives in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk and across the East of England.
The health and safety of the community is of utmost importance to the charity and to deliver this type of fundraising safely, training has been provided to fundraisers representing Magpas Air Ambulance. Each one will be adhering to strict measures, including:
- All Fundraisers will follow social distancing rules and remain a 2-metre distance away from households
- Any signups or donations will be processed using contactless technology
- All Fundraisers will be wearing appropriate PPE, including face masks and shields, gloves and using hand sanitizer as a minimum, as well as other precautions such as more frequent uniform washing and hourly disinfectant of equipment
- Fundraisers will avoid visiting homes where people are likely to be shielding, such as retirement homes, or sheltered housing. They will also avoid visiting homes where it will be impossible to maintain social distancing, such as an area which has a large proportion of flats
This decision will be reviewed on a weekly basis as we closely observe updates from the government, local lockdowns and gain experience from our fundraising.

Our fundraising company, Unity4 call some of our lottery supporters on our behalf. The number that will come up when we call is 01480 802 200.
If you choose to call us back you will be greeted with a message from us informing you that we have called you with a non-urgent message and that we may call back.

Our lottery partner, LFS, administers the Magpas Lottery, helping us to make sure it is fair, transparent and complies with gambling legislation. LFS also employ fundraisers who encourage people to join the Magpas Lottery, including at door-to-door visits, public events and in town centres. PLEASE NOTE: Our fundraisers are unable to accept any cash or one-off donations from the public because they aren’t legally licenced to do so.
They are recruited by LFS to raise support and awareness for Magpas Air Ambulance on our behalf, by playing the weekly lottery through direct debits only.
They are also not allowed to street collect for us using Magpas collection tins.
These rules are put in place to protect the fundraisers, Magpas and the general public from any lawful or unlawful repercussions and accountability of money.
