A message for you from Magpas Air Ambulance former patient Sophie Short:

Sophie and her husband Michael

“My name is Sophie, and without Magpas Air Ambulance supporters like you, I wouldn’t be able to write this today.

When I was in a car accident that almost cost me my life, my new baby James was sleeping in my fiancé’s arms just a few minutes away.

My car skidded on some mud on the road. It flipped and landed in a ditch, crushed against a tree. In amongst the wreckage I felt the stinging nettles through the smashed window, glass wedged in my head and ear, and then searing pain unlike anything I’d ever experienced before.

The impact fractured my spine in seven places.

I honestly thought I might die before anyone could help, so I can’t put into words how relieved I was to hear the Magpas Air Ambulance helicopter overhead and see the orange flight suits of the Magpas doctor and critical care paramedic who were there to save me.

The scene of Sophie’s accident

They got me out of the car and gave me critical treatment on the roadside before flying me to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Had the Magpas Air Ambulance team not been there and been so skilled with my care that day, those fractures could have severed my spinal cord and left me completely paralysed for the rest of my life.

Instead, I beat the odds. I’ve since been able to walk in the park with my son, walk down the aisle to my husband, Michael, on our wedding day and I even ran the London Marathon for Magpas Air Ambulance. Now, we’re pregnant with our second baby!

Magpas Air Ambulance can only continue to save lives like mine because of people like you, and one way you can help keep these lifesavers flying is by playing their raffle. The Magpas Air Ambulance Summer Raffle has the power to change so many lives – including yours!

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning £3,000 is head to this webpage and buy your tickets today.

That simple action could be the difference that helps keep another family together.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting this incredible charity. Without people like you, it could have been a very different story for me and my family.

Good luck!

Love,
Sophie
