Specialist recruitment agency, The One Group, started supporting their local air ambulance charity, Magpas Air Ambulance over 11 years ago. Little did they know then the incredible impact they would have.
Back in 2008, the company, with offices in Cambridge, Peterborough and Northamptonshire, decided they wanted to hold a charity golf day as a way to build relationships and thank the businesses who work with them.
Tristan Drane, The One Group’s Managing Director explains, “We decided we wanted a charitable element to the golf day, so we did a bit of a straw poll within the business. Our only stipulations were that we wanted a local charity, so we knew that the money would really help, and a cause that effects and benefits people’s lives; Magpas Air Ambulance was the clear winner. We both covered a similar area and various people in the office had had experiences where a friend or family member had needed Magpas, so it seemed like a really good charity to align ourselves with – and that’s how it’s remained ever since.”
Over the past decade the One Group’s annual golf day has grown immensely. Tristan continues, “We invited about 20 people to our first event, but in the last couple of years we’ve had between 80-100 attendees. We’ve now developed a really good process and we focus on doing better each year – ideally exceeding the fundraising total from the previous year as well.”
And that they have certainly done! Tristan, alongside Marc Kent, The One Group’s Head of Commercial, visited the Magpas Air Ambulance operations base last week to present a cheque for £19,000 (the amount raised at their recent golf day). By doing so, they also celebrated a huge milestone; raising over £100,000 for the charity in total!
Daryl Brown, Magpas Air Ambulance CEO, sums up “We are incredibly grateful to The One Group staff and customers for thinking of, and supporting our cause, year on year. This phenomenal achievement has undoubtedly saved many lives across the region. The One Group’s consistent, generous and loyal support makes them our biggest corporate supporter and shows how a strong local business can support local charity fundraising to make a real difference to people’s lives.”
