Long Sutton, serious car vs van collision – 2 Magpas Air Ambulance teams called to scene

The Magpas Air Ambulance taking offAt 7am on Thursday 19th September, Magpas Doctor Mike Thompson and Paramedic Steve Chambers arrived in Long Sutton via a Magpas Air Ambulance rapid response vehicle. They were coming to the end of their night shift when they were called to a collision between a van and a car.

The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed two patients at the scene. The first (in his 30’s) had suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was left in the care of an EMAS Ambulance Service paramedic crew.

The second patient (in his 50’s) had sustained multiple serious injuries and the doctor-paramedic team sedated the man at the scene in order to protect his injuries (providing him with A&E level care). They then requested the assistance of the Magpas Air Ambulance day team, Doctor David Leverton and Paramedic Andy Ormiston, to airlift the patient to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where he was in a very serious but stable condition upon arrival.

The helicopter crew who flew the patient and medical team were Pilot Chris Sherriff and Technical Crew Member Rob Davies.

Lincolnshire Police and Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.
