B1043 near Sawtry, man seriously injured in refuse lorry collision – Magpas Air Ambulance flies to the scene

At 11.03am this morning (16th) Magpas Doctor Ed Barnard and Paramedic Dan Cody landed beside the B1043 near Sawtry. They had been called to treat a man seriously injured in a road traffic collision involving a single refuse lorry.

As the first emergency responders on scene, the Magpas enhanced medical team assessed the man (in his 40s) who had sustained multiple life-changing injuries. They provided him with pain relief before placing him into an induced coma (giving him A&E level care). With help from the Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service they extricated the man before airlifting him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He was in a serious but stable condition upon arrival at hospital.

The helicopter crew who flew the medical team and patient were Pilot Andy Figg and Crewmember Rob Davies.

An EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew was also in attendance.
