St Albans Business Quiz leads the lifesaving way

Take one determined lawyer and 120 representatives of companies based in and around St Albans in Hertfordshire; then introduce a hog roast, some award winning locally brewed beer and a highly commendable cause – and the result is the St Albans Business Quiz!

David Hughes is MD at niche employment law, HR advice and company contracts law consultancy, Canopy Law, based in St Albans. He found out about emergency medical charity Magpas at the Platinum Point business group and made it his mission to get an event together where people could relax and enjoy, whilst raising lifesaving funds. As soon as the venue was set at St Albans School, David started to spread the word amongst the local corporate community, asking them to come on board and challenge their grey cells.

The night itself was a roaring success, with lots of laughter, amidst the teams’ knife-edged focus to win! David’s fellow members of Platinum Point also stepped in to lend a hand with marshalling the event and in some cases writing some really tough quiz questions! There was also a very poignant element to the occasion, that helped highlight the importance of Magpas. Patrick O’Gallagher, the father of a Magpas former patient from Hertfordshire, bravely stood up on stage and talked about the crucial difference the organisation made for his now ten year old daughter Abaigh O’Gallagher. The Magpas Air Ambulance flew to Abaigh when she suffered critical injuries. The charity’s team of a highly skilled doctor and paramedic, gave her the care she needed there and then. Abaigh has since made a fantastic recovery.

Organiser David said, “I really enjoyed hosting the Business Quiz during the St Albans Chamber of Commerce’s Business Festival. I was hoping the competitive spirit would bring the St Albans business community out in force – and it worked, with 20 local businesses represented on the night. Everyone was very generous spirited and helped to raised over £1,200 in support of Air Ambulance charity Magpas. Thank you to all involved”.

Magpas would like to thank David for his commitment and dedication to arranging the evening, not forgetting his natural talents as quiz master extraordinaire!
